PBS, Malta’s national broadcaster, hosted the semifinal of its National Selection on Thursday, where 18 participants performed in hopes of qualifying for the final, scheduled for Saturday, January 17, at 20:30 CET. Following a combined vote from the national jury and televoters, 12 acts were selected to advance and compete for the chance to represent Malta in Vienna in the 2nd semifinal, set on May 14th.

The following acts have been announced as finalists:

• Franklin Calleja – “Guide You Home”
• Ema – “Achikuku (Don’t Think About It)”
• Adria Twins – “Nerġà nqum”
• Kelsie Borg – “Let a Girl Breathe”
• Matthew Cilia – “Brutality Mentality”
• Matt Blxck – “Ejja lejja ħdejja ‘l hawn (The flute)”
• Mychael Bartolo Chircop – “My Sweet Angel”
• Aidan – “Bella”
• Denise – “Trophy”
• Nathan Psaila – “Ganador”
• Mark Anthony Bartolo – “Mumenti sbieħ”
• Janice Mangion – “Univers”

This year marks the 38th time that Malta is participating in the Eurovision Song Contest, debuting in 1971 and placing 2nd in 2002 and 2005, remaining the nation’s best results so far. One of them was the legendary Ira Losco, who almost brought Malta’s first victory back in 2002, just 12 points behind the winner of the contest, Marie N from Latvia. She came back in 2016 with the amazing song Walk on Water, which remained a favorite amoung the fans. Check it out!
