VÆB will represent Iceland at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest after winning ‘Söngvakeppnin 2025’ with the song ‘RÓA’

On Saturday 22 February we got to watch as Iceland picked its song for Basel 2025.

For the first time since 2012, the final did not include a superfinal round. The winner was decided through a 50/50 split between votes from seven international juries and the public. Væb emerged victorious with a total of 167 points, earning 74 points from the juries (1st) and 93 points from the televote (1st). The acts finishing in second 🥈 and third 🥉 place are “Set Me Free” by Stebbi JAK and “Fire” by Júli og Dísa who received 142 and 137 points, respectively.

Learn more about VÆB:

VÆB is the dynamic duo of brothers Matthías Davíð Matthíasson and Hálfdán Helgi Matthíasson, better known as Litli Væb and Stóri Væb. With a passion for music, boundless energy, and a love for sushi and steak, they bring pure “bullandi stemmning” to everything they do. Their Eurovision favorite? A specific 16-second stretch of Moldova’s 2019 entry. Their biggest fear? Taxes. Their song is inspired by a determined, deaf frog who never gave up—much like Væb themselves. In the next five years, they plan to have fun, watch Squid Game season 3, and hopefully co-write a science book with Ævar Vísindamaður.

“RÓA” will be performed in the First Half of the First Semi-Final on Tuesday 13 May.
