Voting in Yle’s Contest for New Music UMK is changing this season, allowing the audience to start voting for their favorite as soon as the first UMK25 performance begins. The aim is to give even more music fans the opportunity to influence the selection of the UMK winner and Finland’s next Eurovision representative.

Finland’s largest music show, Contest for New Music UMK, will culminate on February 8 at Nokia Arena in Tampere. The UMK winner will be decided by audience votes (75% weight) and an international jury of professionals (25%). With the voting time change, also familiar from last year’s Eurovision Song Contest, even more Finns now have the chance to impact their favorite’s success in the competition.

UMK’s executive producer, Anssi Autio says: “It’s the Finnish voters, above all, who decide the winner and Finland’s next Eurovision representative. By extending the voting time, we want to give voters more time to support their favorite, and we also hope to achieve the largest vote count in UMK history this year.”

Proceeds from voting will go to mental health support for children and youth

Proceeds from UMK’s paid voting will be donated to the association Mieli ry. The funds will be used to strengthen young people’s mental health in schools and recreational activities, as well as to ensure that the association’s support chat can respond to as many young people as possible, regardless of location, without referrals or fees.
