In this morning, the Montenegrin broadcaster RTCG publish a document which seems to suggest that Montenegro will be returning to Eurovision in 2025.

The document reffers to the rules of Montesong 2024 which will be the National Final for 2025.

The document confirms all the rules that artists must follow to take part in “Montesong 2024”. All songs must be submitted by 1 October 2024, and every song must be at least 51% – or over half – in one of Montenegro’s official languages. Any artist looking to perform must also hold Montenegrin nationality.

From there, a committee set up by the broadcaster will review the submissions and select up to 16 songs for the competition. They’ll judge each song using a points system, giving a maximum of 50 points for composition, 30 points for lyrics and 20 points for production. That means each song can earn a maximum of 100 points.

To go to competition stage, songs must have at least 75 points in the review process. If no song reaches this amount of points, RTCG confirms in the document that they have the right to internally select the song for Eurovision 2025.

Date

“Montesong 2024” does not have a confirmed date yet, but its name implies that the event will be held before the end of this year. That means Montenegro could not only return to Eurovision, but be one of the first countries to announce its song for the 2025 contest.

Voting

According to the document, for the final result there will be a combination of televoting and juries but we don’t know the proportions yet.

Last participation

Montenegro’s last participation was in 2022 when Vladana and her song Breath failed to qualify to the final.
