On Saturday it is time for the last heat of the year and the final qualifier in Jönköping. The final qualifier is broadcast as an extension of the regular broadcast and thus takes place directly after heat 5.

After the regular round is completed, the five entries (see the entries already qualified in the finalkval) that placed third in all rounds return to compete again for the two remaining final spots. All third-place entries that have advanced from previous rounds return to the competition and will be in place in the arena on Saturday evening.

The final qualification is divided into two rounds:

Round 1 – a submission directly to the final based on points
Each submission brings an initial point total into the final qualification, which is based on how many votes they received in their round – in relation to how many people voted during it.

The entry with the highest points in the qualifying round will advance directly to the final. This initial score will be reported first in the program.

Round 2 – remaining entries compete further based on votes
After the first qualifying entry advances to the final, quick replays are played of the four remaining entries.

After the quick replay, viewers can start voting, up to five times per entry, via app and phone. Once voting is complete, an additional 800 points will be awarded based on the number of votes per entry.

Scoring – how it works

Round 1
Each entry receives an initial point total based on how many votes they received in their round – in relation to how many people voted in it. In round 1, 1000 points are awarded.

Example: An entry that has received 1,000,000 votes in a competition where 500,000 people voted is given a value of 2. If another entry has also received 1,000,000 votes but only 400,000 people voted in that competition, that entry is given a value of 2.5 and thus receives a higher starting score in the final qualifier compared to the first entry.

The values of all five entries are then added together to give a total. For the sake of this example, let’s say it’s 13. For an entry that has a value of 2.5, this means it gets 2.5 out of 13, or 19.2% of 1000 points. That’s 192 points.

Round 2
Once the qualifying voting has concluded, an additional 800 points will be distributed based on the number of votes per entry.

The points are awarded in exactly the same way as in the final. The entry with the fewest points before the vote will have its new points reported first. When all points have been reported, the entry with the highest final points will advance to the final. Entries that have engaged more in relation to the number of voters will therefore receive more points.

In the event of the same final score for two or more entries, the highest initial score in round 1 will determine the winner.
