Malta is set to officially open submissions for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest (MESC) 2025 on November 18, 2024. Artists will have until November 29, 2024, to submit their entries, and PBS has outlined specific eligibility criteria and regulations for participants.

Eligibility Requirements

To participate in MESC 2025, artists must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Nationality: All participants must be Maltese nationals or hold dual citizenship that includes Maltese nationality. For group entries, the lead artist must fulfill this requirement.
  • Previous Winners: Artists who won in the previous year or represented Malta in the last edition of the Eurovision Song Contest are not eligible to perform in this contest.
  • Authors and Composers: Individuals involved in the creation of the songs can be of any nationality.

Submission Process

  • Song Limit: Artists can submit multiple songs; however, only one entry will progress to the semifinals.
  • Originality Declaration: Each submission must include a signed declaration confirming that the song is original and has not been submitted to any other contests.
  • Submission Method: Entries must be submitted electronically through the official MESC website by the November 29 deadline. Required materials include song lyrics, audio tracks, and various signed declarations.

Contest Format

The Malta Eurovision Song Contest will follow a structured format that includes a Selection Phase, Semi-Finals, and a Final:

  • Selection Phase: Songs will be evaluated by a jury without the artists present, with the top 24 entries advancing to the next round.
  • Semi-Finals and Finals: Selected songs will be performed live in front of an audience. Voting will be conducted by both jurors and the public to determine the finalists and the eventual winner.

Important Dates

  • Submissions Open: November 18, 2024
  • Submissions Close: November 29, 2024
  • Semi-Finals: February 4 and 6, 2025
  • Grand Final: February 8, 2025
