On friday, February 16, Germany is set to held its national final once again in order to select their Eurovision potential.

2 weeks ago the official broadcaster NDR had announced the first 8 songs that will compete in the german selection called “Das Deutsche Finale”, set to be held on friday, February 16, in the city of Berlin, hosted by the famous Barbara Schoneberger. The final will determine who will fly the german flag in the month of May in Malmo.

In my opinion, the selection is a safe one. The songs are not great, but also not terible. I am hoping Germany will not finish once again in the bottom 5, like in the previous years after Michael Schulte’s great performance in Lisbon in 2018, when he managed to bring his country back in the top 5.

The 9th act of Germany’s national final will be announced on the 8th of February during the final of “Ich Will Zum ESC!” – The German Eurovision preselection, hosted by Conchita Wurst (ESC 2014 Winner) and Rea Carvey. For the moment, the broadcaster NDR had announced the first 8 competing entries:

In the past years Germany was unfortunately on the right side of the scoreboard. This means Germany didn’t receive enough points in order to break the last place curse. Since Michael Schulte’s fabulous performance in 2018, Germany has been confrunting every year with bad results. After sending a bop in 2020, NDR (Norddeutsche Rundfunk) opted for another internal selection in 2021 when Ben Dolic was replaced with Jendrik. The song “I don’t feel hate” received 0 points in the final, together with Spain, United Kingdom and the host country, Netherlands. In 2022 and 2023, Germany placed last again with Malik Harris and the rock band Lord Of The Lost.
