The Austrian broadcaster ORF has revealed the stage design for the 70th Eurovision Song Contest, set to take place in Vienna in May 2026. As the world’s largest live music event, Eurovision continues to evolve musically, culturally, and creatively, and this year’s design reflects a bold balance of tradition and innovation.

The stage concept comes from renowned German designer and producer Florian Wieder, marking his 10th Eurovision stage design. Based in Munich and Los Angeles, Wieder has worked with international superstars such as Beyoncé, U2, Robbie Williams, Ed Sheeran, and recently developed the pop-up arena concept for Adele’s concerts in Munich. He has also designed stages for major TV productions including the MTV Video Music Awards and MTV Europe Music Awards.

A Stage Inspired by Art and Innovation

At the centre of the Eurovision 2026 stage is a striking LED surface shaped like a curved leaf, forming the main visual focus of the production. This is complemented by a sweeping arc and an elaborate golden supporting structure, combining artistic expression with functionality.

The design draws inspiration from the Viennese Secession art movement, emphasizing bold creativity, openness to new forms, and a courageous spirit of renewal. Three key design elements guide the stage’s visual storytelling:

  • The Leaf – Symbolising origin, potential, and new beginnings, the leaf represents shared creativity and the diversity of music across Europe.
  • The Curved Line – Expressing resonance, development, and musical movement, it conveys connection, emotion, and Viennese charm.
  • The Construct – A golden structure connecting art with functionality, creating order while providing contrast to the organic curved forms.

Together, these elements preserve the core DNA of Eurovision while introducing fresh creative perspectives. Additionally, the Green Room will be linked directly to the stage by a walkway, allowing performers to interact with the audience during the traditional Winner’s Walk.

Hollywood-Style Direction

For the first time in Eurovision history, Arri cameras will be used to capture the live shows, giving the broadcast a cinematic, Hollywood-inspired look. The direction team, led by Michael Kögler and Robin Hofwander, draws inspiration from large-scale concerts by artists such as Coldplay, Taylor Swift, and Billy Joel.

Music Bridging Classical and Modern

The theme music for Eurovision 2026 is inspired by Austrian composer Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Dorothee Freiberger and Martin Gellner have reinterpreted selected themes, blending orchestral grandeur with modern musical structure. The ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna will perform the music, creating a bridge between classical heritage and contemporary sound. Freiberger also composed Vienna 2015’s memorable theme, Building Bridges.

With this combination of artistic vision, cinematic direction, and musical innovation, Eurovision 2026 promises a visually stunning and culturally rich experience, celebrating both Vienna’s heritage and the continent’s musical diversity.

The 70th Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Vienna, Austria, with live shows scheduled for May 2026, bringing together artists and audiences from across Europe for a spectacular celebration of music and creativity.
