Khabar Agency has officially confirmed today that Kazakhstan will not participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

The announcement was made by Zhamilya Muhamedzharova, Director of Content Acquisition at the Khabar Agency, through the following statement

“The Khabar Agency appreciates the uniqueness and importance of the contest, which promotes the development of talent and cultural exchange among younger generations from different countries.”

“To participate, as well as to broadcast an event of such scale, the following payments must be made: participation fee, purchase of broadcast licensing rights, technical services for a satellite channel, production of music videos and original songs, organization of the representatives’ participation, and tax obligations. The total cost is very high, and the Agency does not have such funds.”

“Furthermore, this program format consistently shows low television ratings every year, and the grand final of the contest takes place at an unsuitable time for the Kazakhstani audience.”

“In this regard, the Khabar Agency is compelled to announce that it will not be able to participate in 2024, but it remains hopeful of returning in the near future.”

Kazakhstan made its debut in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2018 and continued to participate through 2022. The countryโ€™s involvement in the competition is overseen by Khabar Agency (KA), which is an associate member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Kazakhstan achieved their highest score in 2019 with the song “Armanyล„nan Qalma,” performed by Yerzhan Maksim, which placed second with 227 points.
