The announcement came on the morning of 17 February during The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2. The BBC confirmed that LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER, whose real name is Sam Battle, will represent the United Kingdom in Vienna.

Reacting live on air, the Kent-based musician described the opportunity as surreal and exciting, highlighting his long-standing love for Eurovision and the joy the contest brings to millions of viewers each year. A unique voice in electronic music

Originally named Sam Battle, he first gained attention in 2014 as the frontman of the indie rock band ZIBRA. The group performed at the Glastonbury Festival through BBC Introducing, marking an important early milestone in his career.

Soon after, he shifted direction and fully embraced electronic music, launching his solo project LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER. Since then, he has built a reputation as one of the UK’s most inventive electronic performers.

His sound is rooted in analogue synth textures and experimental production, inspired by iconic British acts such as Depeche Mode, New Order and Pet Shop Boys. However, what truly distinguishes him is his hands-on engineering approach.

He designs and builds his own instruments, including organs constructed from Furbies and Game Boys, a synthesizer bicycle, and even a drone-powered synthesizer that earned him a Guinness World Record. His live shows combine performance art, technical innovation and electronic energy, creating an experience that is both visually and sonically striking.

Expectations and the road to Vienna

The 2026 contest will be hosted at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna. The Semi-Finals are scheduled for 12 and 14 May, with the Grand Final taking place on 16 May 2026.

As one of the “Big Five” countries, the United Kingdom automatically qualifies for the Grand Final. This means LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER will perform directly in the Saturday night show, without competing in the Semi-Finals.

Following several challenging results in recent years, the BBC’s decision to select such an unconventional and inventive artist signals a renewed ambition to stand out both musically and visually. With his Eurovision entry set to be unveiled soon, expectations are high that the UK will deliver a performance unlike anything else on the Vienna stage.

At the previous edition of the contest, the United Kingdom was represented by country-pop trio Remember Monday at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. The group competed with their original song “What The Hell Just Happened?”, bringing a vibrant and theatrical performance to the Grand Final. As a member of the Big Five, the UK was automatically qualified for the final show.

On the night, Remember Monday finished in 19th place out of 26 finalists, receiving a total of 88 points combined from the professional juries and the public televote. While the result placed the UK on the right-hand side of the scoreboard, the performance was widely praised for its energy and vocal delivery.

Stay tuned for more!
