Finnish national broadcaster YLE has announced today they are opening submissions for Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2025.

As in previous years, a panel of music professionals, led by YleX’s music manager Tapio Hakanen, will select the songs and artists. Applications are made via a form available on the official website, where competition rules are also provided in Finnish, Swedish, and English. The application period starts on August 19 at 8:00 AM and ends on August 25 at 11:59 PM. All applicants will be contacted by October.

UMK25 will take place in February 2025, with details to be announced in the coming months.

Last year, Finland was represented by the previous UMK winner Windows95man with the song “No Rules!” and placed 19th with 38 points.

Finland has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 57 times since its debut in 1961. Yleisradio (Yle) selects Finland’s entrant through the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK). Finland won the contest once, in 2006, with Lordi’s “Hard Rock Hallelujah.” The country has finished last 11 times, earning nul points three times. Since 2004, Finland has failed to reach the final eight times but achieved notable results in recent years, including Kรครคrijรค’s second-place finish in 2023 with “Cha Cha Cha,” Finland’s second-best result ever.
